The 2019 Wilson mural project began back in 2015 at a very contentious borough council meeting. One of my collector's had found an area of our downtown and wanted me to paint a mural in the space. She did all the necessary legwork to promote the idea and then worked with me to put it before our local town council to obtain permission. My daughter and I spent weekends out at the location, situated by a walking/running path, soliciting signatures and trying to get some buy in from the community. The council meeting was packed. Multiple local media outlets showed up and so did the people. Long story short our very conservative community decided that even though "they had nothing against art" we would not be moving forward. Fast forward to 2018 and a woman who had been at that meeting was an employee of Wilson College and she had an idea. The college would be celebrating its sesquicentennial next year and they wanted to make new art a part of the plan. The project began in the summer of 2018 and took approximately three months of 6 day workweeks to finish.
